Rehabilitation after a fracture of the hand
Doctor A. Deriushev
Rehabilitation is undoubtedly an important link in the complex treatment of fractures. The purpose of rehabilitation, including such a method as exercise therapy, is to optimize the course of recovery processes, return the musculoskeletal function of the bone and joints, and also all the hands completely, to correct the general condition and prevent the development of trophic changes in muscles, ligamentous apparatus , and in the joints and, of course. in the bones.
The following LFK (physiotherapy exercises) are used: therapeutic gymnastics, active physical exercises in water, training of household skills, mechanotherapy, occupational therapy and massage. It is necessary to consider the general principles of exercise therapy in fractures:
1. Use of physical exercises at the earliest possible time after the fracture.
2. Performing all physical exercises should be performed against the background of maximum relaxation of muscles and, of course, without pain reaction.
3. Use of the most active physical exercises.
4. The combination of various means, including physical therapy should be comprehensive.
5. It is necessary to correctly dose the physical load in accordance with the general functional state and condition of the affected hand.
In the period of residual effects after fracture, exercises that strengthen the muscles of the arm and are aimed at stretching the tissues of the surrounding joints, mechanotherapy and the training of small movements are applied. Exercise therapy in elderly and especially senile patients should also be directed at such moments as improving the function of the respiratory and cardiovascular system. Children use game or imitation exercises.
In addition to exercise therapy, physiotherapy methods of rehabilitation are also widely used. After removal of plaster casts, muscle electrostimulation is prescribed to combat muscular atrophy. Conduct it daily, the course requires 15-25 procedures, it is good to use common coniferous or salt baths (with a temperature of about 36-37 degrees and duration of 12-15 minutes, every other day, and for the course - 12-15 procedures). If possible, prescribe sodium or radon baths, you can also use ultrasound on the area of weakened muscles, it is used in the pulsed mode. When contractures are prescribed ultraphonopharynge hydrocortisone on the affected area of the joint.
With delayed formation of the bone callus, it is necessary to apply ultrasound in the continuous mode to the fracture region, this is a mobile technique, for 5-8 minutes every other day, 8-10 procedures are necessary for the course, and calcium electrophoresis is also good. Do not forget about proper nutrition for bone fractures .
If the bone callus is formed on the contrary excessively - you can use electrophoresis with iodine (usually a 2% solution of potassium iodide
